Fr. Midyphil Billones Doctoral Defense

Fr. Midyphil Billones, a priest of the Archdiocese of Jaro, Philippines, defended his Doctoral Dissertation last June 3, 2011, at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

Writing on "The Ecclesiological Principle of Synodality in Eugenio Corecco," Fr. Dodong, as we fondly call him, explained that Bishop Corecco was a Theologian disguised as a Canon Lawyer belonging to the school of Munich, whose scholarly research left a trail-blazing legacy for the Church "in this contemporary re-awakening on the principle of synodality overflowing from the communion ecclesiology in Vatican II."

This doctoral dissertation will surely introduce the figure of Corecco more to the English-speaking world, and contribute to a deeper understanding of the principle of synodality, or "a walking together" of the People of God in the Church. He will be granted the Doctorate in Sacred Theology degree (major in Dogmatic Theology) after the final publication of his thesis.

Fr. Dodong dedicated his work most especially to his sister Nene, who passed away a year ago at a young age, to his father Andy who had also died, and to his mother Mila, who had an intervention in the hospital back home as he was doing his doctoral defense. The Pontificio Collegio Filippino joins Fr. Dodong, his family and his Archdiocese in this truly memorable event, that took place within the PCF's Golden Anniversary Jubilee Year 2011.
